A customer planning a backyard birthday does not know they need a 10×20 tent, four six-foot tables, thirty-two chairs and two linens. They know they need a party for thirty people. A package sells them the party and saves you the twelve-message conversation that ends in the same list.
Build packages from real orders
Look at last season's orders and find the repeats: the backyard party for 30, the wedding basics for 100, the corporate lunch for 50. Each becomes a package with a name, a photo, a set list of items and quantities, and a price.
Price the package, not the sum
A package should cost a little less than the items separately, because it is one delivery and one setup. Show the saving on the storefront. Keep the individual items available too, for the customer who wants forty chairs and nothing else.
Stock is checked per item
A package is a promise about every item in it. Availability for the package on a date is the availability of the scarcest item in it; if you have two tents and one is booked, the package shows one. In Share Marketplace a package checks stock across every item and quantity, and booking it reserves each of them.
Add-ons at checkout
Add-ons are the upsell: a dance floor with the wedding package, a heater with the fall tent, a cooler and a tube with the boat. Attach add-ons to the items they belong with so they are offered at the right moment, and price them so the customer says yes.
Sub-rented items in a package
If a package includes something you sub-rent from a partner, track the partner's cost on the order so the margin on the package is visible. The customer sees one price; you see what it cost.
Seasonal packages
A summer package with fans and a fall package with heaters sell the same tables and chairs twice a year. Rotate the featured packages on the storefront with the season.
Photos and names
A package sells on the photo and the name. "Backyard Party for 30" with a photo of a set-up party outsells "Package A". Take the photos at a real event.
